Pastor John says, "Hope is like sunshine, everyone needs a ray of it."

Devotion 8.28.18

“Therefore He says: ‘Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.’ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:14-17

Who has ever set an alarm clock and either overslept or just kept pushing the snooze button until it stopped going off? Who has forgotten to set the alarm and has overslept? Those are usually the days that get your brains working to tell that little white lie to the boss or has you calling in sick. You know that panicked feeling that you get when it just happens to be a day that you miss something “really important” though? Imagine how awful it would feel to never wake up your faith.

When we just don’t get the importance of our faith we are basically “snoozing” God. When we refuse to get wise and listen to the consequences of our behavior and choices we are purposefully not setting our alarms which means that we are choosing to let the chips fall where they may in our lives.

We are blessed to have the opportunity to have many alarms set for us by others and that is the planning and executing of our Lord. He is stepping in and making sure that we are jolted awake and He keeps hiding the alarms from us so that we can hear them but we can’t find them but they do wake us up. Some of us are heavier sleepers than others and some of us can get quite nasty when our sleep is interrupted. It is a good thing that God is as clever as He is and that we are blessed with His patience and not our own.

If you have been jolted out of sound sleep by our heavenly Father and are awake and aware then say a prayer for another who is sleepwalking through their life and is in need of another alarm being set for them.

“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:14-19
